Warning. Fried bananas may lead to violent pulsions and murder when inhaled.
Couple Charged Over Vendor’s Death Near Factory
A married couple accused of killing a food vendor during a fight over spilled water outside a garment factory has been charged and sent to Phnom Penh’s Prey Sar Prison, Sen Sok district police chief Mok Hong said on Monday.
Loeng Sokra, 37, a sugarcane juice vendor and his wife, Chhorm Nai, 35, who sold fried bananas, were charged with intentional acts of violence that resulted in the death of Chhuon Chantha, Mr. Hong said.
The incident began with an argument outside the factory in Toek Thla commune at about 9 a.m. on Wednesday. Chhuon Chantha, 34, a food and coffee seller, had approached the pair after Ms. Nai’s sister, who had been cleaning fruit in a basin, spilled the dirty water, which spread toward Chhuon Chantha’s stall, police said.
An argument ensued, and Ms. Nai allegedly threw a knife into Chhuon Chantha’s chest, with her husband also jumping into the fray...https://www.cambodiadaily.com/news/coup ... ry-115344/

UPDATE: Almost two years after the alleged murder, the announcement of the verdict has been temporarily deferred.
Absent husband Judge delays verdict in murder case
09 May 2018 | 09:55 ICT
The Phnom Penh Appeal Court yesterday decided to delay its verdict on a 2016 murder case in which a woman was killed by a couple in Sen Sok district, Phnom Penh, due to the absence of the husband.
In court yesterday, Choun Nai, 35, who has been detained at Prey Sar prison, told the judge that her husband, Leung Sokra, 37, was confined at Trapaing Plong prison and didn’t know about the trial.
“The verdict could not be handed because the court requires the husband, who is also an accused, to appear in the court,” said Kim Dany, the presiding judge for the case. “The husband and wife were initially sentenced to 10 years in prison”.
According to the court’s records, on July 6, 2016, Chhoun Chantha, a 33-year-old fried banana seller, died in the hospital shortly after she was seriously injured by a cleaver which was allegedly thrown at her chest by Nai.
The accused was working as a sugarcane juice seller at the time of the attack. Leung Sokra, Nai’s husband, reportedly tried to take the cleaver from Chantha’s chest, but instead “caused it to go deeper”. Both Nai and Sokra were arrested by the police three days later.
Kim Keo Kalyan, the prosecutor, said the trial would take place sometime “in the future”, but did not give a specific date.

Appeal Court hears case of couple sentenced to 10 years imprisonment
18 December 2018 | 13:18 ICT
The Appeal Court heard on Monday, the case of a couple sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for the murder of a woman in June 2016.
The couple identified as husband Loeng Sora, 45, and wife Chhom Nay, 33, was initially sentenced on May 21, last year, by the Phnom Penh Municipal Court to 10 years imprisonment and ordered to pay 40 million riel ($10,000) compensation to the victim’s family.
They were charged with intentional violence with aggravated circumstances resulting in the death of the victim.
However, the suspects disputed the account of events initially provided in their conviction, and so appealed for the sentence to be reviewed.
“I really stabbed the victim. My husband did not attack the victim; I ask the court to punish only the one who attacked her. My husband did not attack the victim, I ask the court to release my husband,” Chhom Nay told the courtroom.
The murder occurred on June 6, 2016, in Sen Sok district’s Teuk Thla commune. Chhuon Chantha, 35, a rice vendor, was murdered after an argument that resulted from Nay pouring water over her produce.
Appeal court prosecutor Khuth Sokheang said: “The court should reconsider the charges against the accused [Sora].
“The victim’s husband accused him of also stabbing her, but there is only one stab wound, so I ask the court to reconsider the case of the suspect’s husband,”

Re: Fried-banana vendor kills rice vendor in fatal stabbing.
It's a sad tale.
The reporting is pretty haphazard. The ages keep changing. Either that or the ordeal has had a marked effect on the 'innocent' husband.
Spelling and accuracy, though, is equal to that of the UK's daily mail, which is nought to be proud of.
I recently ate two fried bananas which SWMBO left next to me while I was convalescing. She came back a few hours later to find me no longer hungry.
Vexed? Two days later, she was still twitching at my ill considered actions.
