Post by CEOCambodiaNews »

Svay Rieng, Cambodia News: On December 17, 2018, 2 Chinese men on a motorcycle rode into a Tela petrol station and purchased US$1 of fuel, paying the attendant with a $50 note.

While the station employee was counting out the change, the Chinese men snatched his money pouch containing about 1,120,000 riel ($280), and rode off on the motorcycle.

Locals say that crimes committed by Chinese gamblers in the border area are increasing, creating a climate of insecurity. Police are on the lookout for the two thieves.

Men snatch handbag in Svay Rieng petrol station
18 December 2018
A petrol station owner had her bag snatched on Monday morning in Svay Rieng province’s Chantrea district.

The district police chief Kong Sophat identified the petrol station owner as Ok Sopha, 38. Sophat said two men riding a motorbike, believed to be Chinese nationals, went to fill up petrol.

After Sopha filled up the suspect’s motorbike, they snatched her bag and rode away. She says there was 1.1 million riel ($280) in the bag.

“The victim did not file a report but I read about the incident in the news so I went to question the petrol station owner,” Sophat said, adding that he had deployed his officers to search for the suspects.
