August 28, 2019, 9:49 AM
The International Federation of Cycling (UCI), the world organizer of cycling, has chosen Cambodia to host the event of the “World Cycling in the Most Beautiful Bays in the World Club" in January 2020. This is projected to be a road race along the Cambodian coastal roads from Koh Kong to Kep, via the beach centres of Sihanoukville (Independence, Sokha, Golden lions and Occheuteal beach), and on through Kampot to Kep.
To date, over 20 countries have registered to compete in these World Championships: There are two groups from Malaysia, one Indonesia, one Singapore and one Philippines, one group of Thais, one South Korea, one Japan, one team China, one Australia, two Italy, One Kazakh team, two French teams, one United States team, one Spanish team and one England team.
There is some concern about the state of the roads and the Inter-Ministerial Committee is urging authorities to speed up road repairs.
More details to follow.

Re: International Bike Race Planned for Cambodian Coast
what a shitty place to hold a race
Having driven this route many times, unless they close the road, bikers need deal with;
Chinese tractors, overloaded trucks, overloaded motorcycles, overloaded motorcycles pretending their trucks, other cyclists, cows, goats, chickens, taxi's, tuk tuks, fancy 4wd lexus's driving to fast, people walking,
pot holes, narrow roads, dirt roads, rocky roads, unevenly paved roads etc
a NIGHTMARE

I guess there are no bike races in Phuket? Of course they close the roads. And if you would have read the news, you would know they have plan to fix the roads that are used for the event.phuketrichard wrote: ↑Thu Aug 29, 2019 8:01 am what a shitty place to hold a race

Traffic suspended along coastal roads
02 January 2020 | 09:44 ICT
The provincial authorities of the Kingdom’s four coastal provinces – Kampot, Preah Sihanouk, Kep and Koh Kong – ordered drivers to avoid travelling along national roads to ease traffic for the “First World Cycling Tour of Cambodia Bay” from Saturday to Monday.
Ministry of Environment secretary of state Neath Pheaktra, who is one of the cycling tour organisers, said more than 200 racers from across the globe will participate.
“The race will take place on the four coastal provinces, beginning in Koh Kong before travelling through Kampot and crossing into Preah Sihanouk and ending in Kep,” he said.
The Kampot provincial administration on Tuesday issued a notice informing drivers to avoid travelling on National Roads 3 and 33 which are the routes for the race.
“To assist in making the First World Cycling Tour of Cambodia Bay successful the Kampot provincial administration informs owners of all types of vehicles to avoid travelling on National Road 3 beginning from Trapaim Ropov Market and National Road 33 until the entrance of Kampong Nong Pagoda from January 4-6,” the notice read.
The notice also said that the bike race will have 120 participants from 15 countries divided into 20 groups, with 180 accompanying delegates and journalists from 27 major media outlets from the US, China, Australia and EU also being present.
Koh Kong province’s Mondul Seima district administration temporarily banned heavy vehicles from travelling on National Road 48 to accommodate the race.
It also instructed lorries with six and 10 tyres to avoid travelling from the Neang Kok dry port and Neang Kok fisheries collection port from 5am to 5pm from Wednesday until Monday.

They can tarmac over the missing cyclist. One pot hole fixed and a useful contribution from the cycling community.phuketrichard wrote: ↑Thu Jan 02, 2020 8:47 pm Dateline; Jan 4th Kampot rte 3

How is anyone going to get there to cheer if they cannot drive
Re: International Bike Race Planned for Cambodian Coast
Kind of like DEATH RACE 2000..
But, with bicycles.
Death Race 2020..
Freaky enough riding in a tuk tuk from Kampot to Kep.
So, they close the roads?
Anybody ever see what a Khmer driver does when the road is closed?
They use the sidewalk or the edge of the road..any path they can find to reach their objective.
Some armored bikes with flame throwers and rockets would be great and attract a huge crowd.
