Nigerian Christ on Trial for Sending Meth to Australia fron Phnom Penh
Two Nigerians tried for trafficking meth
December 13, 2018
Phnom Penh Municipal Court yesterday tried two Nigerian nationals for transporting and trafficking more than half a kilogram of crystal meth in the capital last year.
Presiding Judge Leang Samnath identified them as Enekanma Eneka Christ, 38, a tourist, and Alhassan Safianu, 38, a shoe vendor.
He said that both were charged with drug transport and trafficking and face up to 20 years in jail each if convicted.
Judge Samnath said that Mr Christ was arrested at about 3.30 pm on August 23 by the Interior Ministry’s counter terrorism and transnational crime department police officers after he brought a box containing the drugs to a post office in Daun Penh district in order to send it to Australia.
He said that after his arrest, police seized 700 grams of crystal meth from him.
Judge Samnath added that based on Mr Christ’s confession, police in collaboration with the court prosecutor arrested Mr Safianu, who owned the drugs seized, in the evening of August 23 at his rental house in Por Senchey district.
During yesterday’s trial, Mr Christ told the court that the drugs seized from him belonged to Mr Safianu.
He said that on the day of his arrest, Mr Safianu asked him to carry a box containing soap to send it to a friend living in Australia via the post office in Daun Penh district.
Mr Christ said that when he received the box he did not know that it contained drugs and only knew about it after he was arrested by police at the post office.

Weeping with joy I imagine. Only four years for trafficking 700g of meth. He should try some of the neighboring countries - could have been the death penalty. And he could've got 20 years here if the judge decided so. Very lenient IMO.

The Belgian Tanguy (Who I just realized I know) got life for a kilo of coke. Weird lack of consistency with the courts (unsurprisingly).

CEO News: As a comparison, earlier this year, in July 2018, two Nigerians were given life and a 30-year sentence for trafficking 1.1kg of cocaine in a package couriered by DHL.There was also a $17,500 fine for each man.

Exactly, should have been. Must think that Christ and/or his handlers must have made a very charitable donation $$$. Why 700g to Australia? Don't they have enough there already? 700g there is small time there. What is the expected sale price on that? Risk/Reward?John Bingham wrote: ↑Thu Dec 27, 2018 9:22 pm Da fuq? UPDATE: A later update on the case of Mr Christ and Mr Innocent, by the Khmer Times, reported that the two men received sentences of 30 years prison and a US$10,000 fine for sending 300 grams of ketamine to Australia from Phnom Penh Post office in 2014.

Court sentences two men to 30 in jail over drug trafficking
Phnom Penh Municipal Court today sentenced a Ghanaian man and a Nigerian man to 30 years in prison after they were found guilty of transporting nearly 300 grams of Ketamine through a post office in Phnom Penh to Australia in 2014.
Presiding Judge Im Vannak identified the accused as Enekanma Eneka Christ, 38, Alhassan Safianu Innocent, 39 and his Cambodian wife Srey Sinath, 37.
Judge Vannak said that the trio was charged with “drug transporting” under article 40 of Cambodian Law on Drugs Control. They were arrested on August 23, 2017 in Phnom Penh.
“Based on evidences that police had seized from Enekanma Eneka and Alhassan Safianu Innocent, the court has found them guilty,” Judge Vannak said.
“Therefore, the court has decided to convict and sentence both of them to 30 years in prison each,” he said, adding that each man was ordered to pay about $10,000 for a state budget.
During their trial last month, Enekanma Eneka and Alhassan Safianu denied the allegations, saying that they knew nothing about the drugs seized at the post office on June 11, 2014.
But Sinath was acquitted after she was found not guilty. She was released today.
