I have a question. So here in the States I've gone to the Wat a few times with the lady and noticed that a lot of Srey look at the monks with, dare I say it, lust in their eyes? Seems almost a rock star type adulation for these (supposedly) celibate monks. I'm guessing it isn't much different there as these are Khmer transplants.

Wtf ?! Lust ??? Fanatism why not.
Monks are indeed rockstar in the west for the khmer community as there isn't that much so you often see the same monks at ceremonies/celebrations or whatever, after a while the monk(s) become quite famous in ze diaspora !

If you read Bocaccio's Decameron, you will never place much faith in the celibate monk myth.
Or just read the Bangkok Post.
