I happen to think that calling people from New Zealand kiwis is an insult to the country's native flightless bird.

Well, they do, and rightly so. There's a big difference between a 'coon bar' and a 'Kiwi bar'. I guess that's your point, but irony is difficult to decipher sometimes.
