Monk Rescues Baby Gibbon

Post by CEOCambodiaNews »

This was posted on Expats and locals living in Siem Reap, Facebook page today:
A monk living in a rural forest area in Kompong Speu has rescued a baby gibbon. Some assholes were cutting down trees (illegally, of course)and down went a tree with gibbons in it, crushing the mother & killing her. Is there any chance a person can raise a gibbon like this? If not, does anyone have the name of those local animal rescue places? He spent all of his savings buying it from a villager who was probably going to eat it. Please help.

Think they would have really eaten it ? Doesn't seem like you'd get much meat off a gibbon, and they have such cute little humanoid faces.

And then you think of the bigger picture, and wonder how many gibbons, ibises, and other rare species are getting cut down all the time with the illegal logging. One baby saved, how many dead ? :(

I've never heard of anyone eating any monkey or ape meat here.

Yeah, thats what I thought too. More likely they intended to keep it as a pet.

They do indeed eat the monkey ( macac) or the gibbon. Come out to the world of wildlife and see for yourselves

Sure, why not?

It used to be trendy 15 -20 years ago to have a gibbon in a cage outside your house or shop to show what an ass-wipe you were.

But, you're going to return it to the forest, right?
