Going rogue, ninja style

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Five daredevil ne’er-do-wells were seriously injured in an accident stemming from a high-speed sword fight in Kratie on Tuesday.

Police said the suspects were racing through the streets on motos, duelling with samurai swords as they went.

Unsurprisingly, the chase ended in an accident, with injuries all around.

One of the troublesome truants reportedly told police that the fight had broken out when one of the suspects refused to sell another drugs. DEUM AMPIL

Cambodia has got to be the #1 generator of sword-driven crime stories.
Sword-wielding gang cuts evening’s fun short
Mon, 1 September 2014

After a boozy night out at a shady club in the capital’s Sen Sok district, three men encountered some even shadier characters on their way home.

According to police, the trio was driving in a not-so-straight line home when they were confronted by a gang demanding they relinquish their motorbike.

Showing he meant business, one of the suspects waved a sword at the trio, before a brawl broke out. The thugs had the better of the scrap, escaping with the clubbers’ motorbike. KOH SANTEPHEAP

I seriously doubt that they are true samurai swords, the average Cambodian couldn't afford it even if he could find a dealer. I think they are translating kambeut pkeak as samurai swords. In which case they are somrai(Cambodian for "hillbilly") swords. I admit I'm guessing, but it seems likely to me.

I should have explained that kambeut pkeak are farm implements that have a long bamboo handle with a long straight or curved blade attached.

Good ol' samurai sword crime never goes out of style.
Terrifying chase ends in vicious sword attack
Wed, 18 February 2015

Two Phnom Penh women had the journey home from hell yesterday when they were attacked after refusing to willingly give up their motorbike to a gang of armed thieves.

Four men on two motorbikes followed the pair as they travelled back to their home in Prampi Makara district, according to police.

The suspects pulled out a gun, ordering the women to give up the bike. When one refused, the gang attacked her with a samurai sword, police said.

The suspects managed to escape, while one of the victims is still in hospital. KOH SANTEPHEAP

I think the Bola should be introduced. [rope with balls] Or chain with a weight.

And throwing Stars. Time to give the news more mixed mayhem.

Swords here are cheap junk unless you get a $$$$$ ones from Citadal Knives/Swords. I visited his factory a couple years ago and he has a bunch of nice swords and a few real Samurai swords in his collection. The ones the Cambo's are walking around with are probably cheap Chinese cr*p. In my weapons stash in America I have a real Samurai Sword about 400 years old and worth $$$$. Man, can it cut!
