Sihanoukville, Cambodia News: At 1 pm on November 17, 2018, a car was pierced by a steel rod falling from The Sea Gate construction site in Sihanoukville. The video shows that the vehicle is pulling out of a parking space on to the road, when a thin metal pole falls from the building site opposite, and smashes through the roof of the car.
Security camera images:
Fortunately, the driver was not injured, and the accident could have been much worse if a motorcyclist or pedestrian had been in the place of the car. The overseer of the building site is being held responsible for the incident.

As regards the issue of safety of construction sites around town, citizens report that it is a common occurrence to see wooden, stone, and metal objects dropping from the top of buildings under construction, and people have been injured because of this. Sihanoukville residents have requested that the relevant authorities provide rules to the owners of all construction sites to increase their awareness of security and reduce the likelihood of further accidents.

The people say that the building sites should increase the level of vigilance, using the proper netting technique and barriers to protect the public. Residents have requested that the administration of Preah Sihanouk province send officials to inspect and advise the persons in charge of the sites, as well as ensuring regular monitoring of the safety standards on all construction sites.
