Poipet Soil Trucks Breaking Roads and Railtracks
Banteay Meanchey, Cambodia News: The Ministry of Public Works and Transport has sent a letter on 2 November 2018 to the Governor of Banteay Meanchey province, concerning the hundreds of heavy vehicles which are damaging railway crossings on the roads around Poipet.
At the location, it has been observed that the worst of the damage is caused by the hundreds of trucks removing soil and rocks from the excavation site at the Oh Than Dam, owned by Anco tycoon Kok An. This was confirmed by Mr. Cheng Ghep Pheap, an excavator at the site, who told Rasmei Kampuchea Daily on November 12th that he and other workers were hired laborers working for Oknha Kok An.
The conveys of soil trucks on National Road 5 have also largely contributed to the traffic problems in the area of the pagoda. The truck company reportedly belongs to Oknha Mr. Jiang Pai-pai.
Attempts to contact the companies' higher-ups to resolve these problems have been fruitless for the moment. Kim Sovann, director of the Department of Public Works and Transport in Banteay Meanchey, said that he did not comment on the case.
