Or perhaps you failed to realise that Independence was gained n 1953, and thus predates those 30 years.rubberbaron wrote: ↑Fri Nov 09, 2018 5:29 pm There was an article in the Khmer Times today in which a history professor said that Cambodians can be proud of their independence because it was achieved without war. I guess he forgot about 30 years of fairly recent Cambodian history. A CPP member, no doubt.

Re: It's Independence Day in Cambodia
When Cambodia will finally get independence from Chinese in the year 2150, how they will name that in the calendar as the name is already taken ?

Or the right name seems to be "Independence Day: Resurgence"

Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.

Re: It's Independence Day in Cambodia
A slight correction: the professor said "without blodshed". True independence is not defined by just one act but by continued freedom from outside forces in peace. That surely didn't happen in the year from 1953 to 1997. This is why I would take issue with such a statement. After 1970 Cambodia was greatly influenced by the U. S., governed by a genocidal regime supported by China, occupied by Vietnam, and governed by a Communist regime supported and bolstered by the Soviet Union and other East bloc countries. Who can be proud of such an independence? It was finally achieved after 1997 but is now being threatened by China's overwhelming influence.
