Don’t worry, the Belt and Road Initiative will fix that eventually.

What a load of horseshit. The year round wonderful weather bit was obviously written by someone who has never been here in April melting in the sun or wading through floods in August. I also question Hanoi only being half of PP? Doubtful, and the weather bullshit goes for there too.
Re: CNBC's 5 Cities for Affordable Retirement
Retirees/pensioners don't need to work so most people are going to think beyond the big cities. Smaller cities have more and more conveniences, are safer and quieter and even less expensive. The idea of retiring in Ha Noi seems a bit ludicrous.
The idea of finally leaving Southeast Asia is kind of appealing. Does anyone on this forum have any experience with Lisbon, Quito or Panama City? Or other nice places in southern Europe or Central America?

I have Colombia in the corner of my mind, but I'm not sure I want to live so far from Australia. At least with Central and South America you can learn a useful language like Spanish, which then means you can move around the region without much difficulty (not Brazil, obviously). I gave up learning any more Khmer when they started buggering up the visa situation. Vietnam probably my next stop (despite them also tightening up visas) but only the south where it stays warm, forget Hanoi.sigmoid wrote: ↑Fri Nov 09, 2018 12:00 pm Retirees/pensioners don't need to work so most people are going to think beyond the big cities. Re: CNBC's 5 Cities for Affordable Retirement
Before moving here because of my Khmer wife and all my funds in U. S. dollars I considered Panama. A close friend of mine had moved there 2 years before I considered it. I visited there a couple of times and really liked it. I spoke Spanish in my younger years, only needed to brush op on it. You can live there comfortably on $2500/month, less if own your own home. The climate is tropical, so would have been acceptable for me coming from South Florida. They don't like Gringos so much (wouldn't apply to me though). A lot of Canadians and U.S. retirees go there. I chose Cambodia because of my wife. If you are single, have enough funds, and are tired of Cambodia I would recommend it. Nice ladies too.
