Re: Funeral cost
Who is the veteran? There may be friends who can help. Re: Funeral cost
Its a frustrating thing when you are trying to bury a friend. You nay not be aware but the American Embassy responds to an American death every single week in this country.
It is not the Embassy's responsibility to pay for repatriation, it is the individual's responsibility to have ex-pat insurance or funds to cover is such an event occurs. When that doesn't happen relatives are asked but as in this case, some do not have the funds or desire to help.
Re: Funeral cost
While going for the cheapest option sounds good, I strongly recommend to let the authorities make a certificate of death and have it legalized at MoFa. If next of kin need it later for whatever reason it will be pain in the *ss to prepare the document at that time.
Re: Funeral cost
he left a letter for the authorities stating his wishes,he wants his ashes spread on the mekong to float out to sea.He did not want repatration, just a cheap cremation, once the authorities got involved things went tits up and they scratch one another backr,$$$$ for this $$$$$ for that.we made it clear to the embassy that he had no money, the last went on a hospital visit but once the police and embassys get involved they thik every barang is doshed up.

Re: Funeral cost
Great work PIEMAN, every man deserves to die and be buried with dignity. Way to make the EXPAT community stand out and remain respectable.
