UNTAC Poles

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Post by prahocalypse now »

A new school building named after UNTAC Poles was opened at the ASEAN International English School in Takeo today.

I found the Facebook page of the UNTAC Poles. It's called Zabujani w Kambodży! UNTAC 1992-93. They have some great photos.

I saw a white Landcruiser in PP last week with “U.N” in bit white letters down the side, being driven by a barang.

Is that legal?

Thinking about it maybe that’s where this craze for “Lexus” in big letters plastered down the side comes from!

Did it have UN plates? UN vehicles are usually white with black/ blue lettering, not white. I saw a Landcruiser with UNTAC on the side a year or so back, it was in very good condition so I assume it was for an exhibition or something.

Don’t remember. Are there any of those licence plates in Cambodia nowadays?

Maybe it was for a movie.

JB was trying to point out that you saw a 'white' landcruiser with 'white' letters down the side.

There definitely are UN plates still around but they are rare. They are blue like ONG (NGO) plates but with ONU/ UN lettering.
