Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. If you explore Cambodia, you will often come across people building wooden canoes, or repairing them. You will sometimes come across people building larger wooden boats.

This is the largest wooden boat I have seen being built in Cambodia.

I wonder if they still build wooden boats this big anywhere else in the world.

This is a new ferry being built.

It is large enough to park four full size buses on it. It is long enough to park two full size buses one in front of the other, and wide enough to park two buses side by side.

However, I doubt it will ever be used that way. If you drove a bus up one side, it may tip the ferry over. I think a bus would be parked in the middle, and motorbikes could be parked around it.

When I took these photos, they had stopped construction, waiting for more timber.

I have been told, this ferry will be put into service in Kampong Chhnang. So if you see a new ferry there in a number of months time, this is probably it.

I doubt it will be finished in a few months time, but I would like to see updated pics of it say in one month or so, and when its ready for launch.
Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.

looks nice.i am guessing about 27 mts long,i prefer steel,at that size,i am not sure of there costings but at that size steel is just as expensive as timber and has to be dry docked less over time.We will soon commence a new boat at approx the same size as in 27 mts by 6 mts,but 6 mm steel,is looking slightly beeter at this stage,i am very impressed with the boat builders in Cambodia, both in steel and timber they are very skilled boat builders
