Yes, if your washing machine is brand new, this should not be necessary, but if your landlord provided the machine, it may be new/second-hand and in that case, check the filter. Its usually at the bottom of the machine where the water drains out.

Back to the tap water. There are numerous public service announcements in the west - on TV, radio, print - encouraging tap water drinking. With the message of not just is tape water drinking healthy but also saving the planet.
