Year 12 Final English Exam 2018

Have questions or resources regarding Khmer Culture? This forum is all about the Kingdom of Cambodia's culture. Khmer language, Cambodian weddings, French influence, Cambodian architecture, Cambodian politics, Khmer customs, etc? This is the place. Living in Cambodia can cause you to experience a whole new level of culture shock, so feel free to talk about all things related to the Khmer people, and their traditions. And if you want something in Khmer script translated into English, you will probably find what you need.

StroppyChops and others how do you think year 12 Cambodian high school students would do?

How do you think Cambodian English teachers would do, if they did this exam.
## I thought I knew all the answers, but they changed all the questions. ##

I would expect Year 12 Khmer students to do reasonably well with that exam. By Year 12 they would be doing Advanced level English.

I think a student who'd applied themselves and studied would pass, but not well. I think a Cambodian teacher of English would struggle if given this test unprepared.

The level of ambiguity is unnecessary, however the test is too short for the time period - which means that each question carries too much weight. I'd have given at least twice as many questions, but without the ambiguity.

Not well.
I did my CELTA some years ago.
Did my head in.
Never realised the rules of the game.
Do now and see why it's taught like that.
Hate teaching though and as result blew my dollars.

My personal/professional view is that if you're teaching any language using grammar rules, you're failing your students. I taught teenagers in China who could recite the grammar rules of English better than I can, but could not construct a simple sentence. So, if you're teaching or being taught based on something like this as the primary tool:

it's not the most effective teaching. Actually, it's an older method than post-industrial teaching, it's industrial teaching method, which has been demonstrated to be a Very Bad Thing.
