Stanford bioengineers develop a 20-cent, hand-powered centrifuge
Published on Jan 10, 2017
Inspired by a whirligig toy, Stanford bioengineers have developed an ultra-low-cost, human-powered blood centrifuge. With rotational speeds of up to 125,000 revolutions per minute, the device separates blood plasma from red cells in 1.5 minutes, no electricity required. A centrifuge is critical for detecting diseases such as malaria, African sleeping sickness, HIV and tuberculosis. This low-cost version will enable precise diagnosis and treatment in the poor, off-the-grid regions where these diseases are most prevalent. For more info: http://stanford.io/2j2MDjM

Very cool indeed.
They have taken something so simple, understood the physics behind it and worked out a function that it can be used for in the real world.
This is critical thinking at its best.....

that's excellent.

I'm not so impressed. Any fifth grade student could have developed the same thing.

But they didn't develop it did they, because they didn't have the ability to translate something simple into something eminently useful. Credit goes to the person that actually took a "common toy" and developed something medically useful from it.

Right now, I'm developing a stiffy to glide up your booty. How's that?that genius wrote: ↑Sun Sep 23, 2018 4:29 pmWhat have you developed in your lifetime?
I'm guessing zero.
