Chinaman ODs on Ventolin

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Chinaman ODs on Ventolin

Post by prahocalypse now »

A Chinaman named Weijian Lin overdosed on Ventolin, had a heart attack, and died.

The cops measured the dead Chinaman's apparatus. It's about 3 1/2 inches long.

Condolences to the family and friends.

It takes some fairly solid commitment to OD on Ventolin, way to commit!

Although to be fair, when you need the stuff, that first hit is pretty addictive - and you can feel your heart accelerate on a double-huff.

Article concerning Ventolin here:

The bronchodilator salbutamol (Ventolin) is associated with increased myocardial injury in a pre-clinical heart attack model

Salbutamol is widely used to treat symptoms of chest tightness commonly associated with Asthma. Recent studies have associated increased in morbidity and mortality in asthmatic patients with underlying heart disease currently being treated with salbutamol. The study aimed to investigate the effects of salbutamol on the myocardium subjected to ischaemia-reperfusion (I/R).

This study is the first to identify the cardiotoxic effects of salbutamol in a pre-clinical heart attack model. Further studies are being investigated to determine the mechanism of action of the myocardial injury associated with salbutamol.

In Australia the push for decades has been to reduce the need for bronchodilation using steroids - apart from chronic asthmatics if you experience attacks other than during sport, sudden temperature changes etc. you're usually put on a treatment plan. Perth in WA has the highest incidence rate of asthma globally, and has a couple of research centres. I was a guinea pig for trialing pharmaceuticals that had already been approved in other western countries, but not yet approved in Australia, and somehow magically always ended up on Team Non-Placebo as I have an enlarged heart and lungs, and can blow a tidal air volume within the approval requirements even when having a mild attack. The steroids are known to also be a Bad Thing, but are preferred to the bronchodilator in terms of risk.

It’s a fine line. A little bit opens up the airways, a little more stresses the heart, more after jacks up the blood pressure and stresses the heart even more.

It is indeed - and a little works wonders for night cough, but if you start using it every night you get addicted to the response (rather than the chemical) and that leads down a dangerous path.

So that's what's killing everyone so young in Cambodia. Rip.
