Help needed about acquiring documents
Im a little frustrated currently as my honesty caused me to shoot my own foot. I should not have been honest here in the KoW. I now realize I need to play the game like everyone else!
We were super excited to complete our application and interview today for marriage. Just got back from MoFA. We had all of our documents, filled out the application there and was called back for our interview. ( It's their current process)
My single status affidavit was notarized and I thought all was good. I was a dumb ass and stupidly listed myself as divorced not realizing I'd need my original court documents of the divorce!
Luckily I have them at my mother's house in the US. How can I get a legal copy of them here fast?? Anyone know of a way besides paying astronomical prices for 2 day shipping or some such?

Re: Help needed about acquiring documents
I went thru a similar issue and they needed an official copy with raised seal. So no copy, notary didnt matter, US embassy couldnt get it because my divorce paprrs are state documents not federal.
In the end I had Texas Dept of Vital Statistics mail me an official one to my po box. Took a good month.
My only advice is realise you may not be able to do much more than just slow down the process. She'll still be around in a month so its no big deal... If shes not then you dodged a bullet.

Thanks for confirmation, I figured mailing was the only way and worried it would take a month.lostjeremy wrote: ↑Fri Sep 14, 2018 5:53 pm I went thru a similar issue and they needed an official copy with raised seal. Were you in the US while you obtained the document? If not, were you able to order from state website?
I'm concerned my copy doesn't have a state seal

Texas has a website you can order pretty much any document or ID you need and pay with credit card and they mail it.
Hopefully your state has the same.

Will they still accept the other documents then? MoFA told me all document have a 3 month validity only and after that they're expired......bvanfossen wrote: ↑Fri Sep 14, 2018 10:24 pmI looked and it does. 6 week processing time and then the month in the mail. When I was home in June I did the FBI criminal record check which was $60. Fingerprints were taken at a UPS store and uploaded to FBI system. A few weeks later I received the results. The guy will not accept them unless notarized. He said there should be a government seal and mine are copies. Only they are not
How did you handle your criminal record check?
Re: Help needed about acquiring documents
Don't get me started. I requested one, had to upload all the documents (including full passport scan.... blacked out some parts though) over a non-encrypted (what are governments thinking?) e-mail connection, only to be told the waiting time is 6-8 weeks.....bvanfossen wrote: ↑Sat Sep 15, 2018 10:41 amThat's interesting, the guy helping me, younger guy, said 6 month validity.Kammekor wrote: ↑Fri Sep 14, 2018 10:36 pmWill they still accept the other documents then? And that was just the criminal record from my home country.... Still have to apply for the Cambodian one.
Re: Help needed about acquiring documents
Your story still confuses me though....
You have a document stated you're divorced. Legalized by your embassy. Correct?
Then why would they need the the underlying court order? It's like asking for your birth certificate when you show your passport, or like asking for your first grade primary school report when your apply for uni. You need a certain document to be able to get another, and when you have the final documents, you still have to show all the documents you acquired down the road.......
