In a surprising news, Honda was unveiled as the new General Manager of the Cambodia national team in a press conference held today by the Football Federation of Cambodia (FFC).

This means that Honda will be the one guiding Cambodia at the upcoming 2018 AFF Suzuki Cup tournament where they are in the same group as Malaysia, Myanmar, Vietnam and Laos.

Honda has a wealth of experience having played in several World Cups as well as wearing the colours of AC Milan, CSKA Moscow and Nagoya Grampus Eight.
However it is not yet known how he will arrange his time, seeing that he just signed for Melbourne Victory in Australia.

2010 World Cup, Japan are playing and Honda has a brilliant first half. Goes to the BBC pundit panel at half-time for analysis.

Gary Lineker - Harry, you nearly brought Honda to Spurs didn't you ?

Harry Rednapp - Yeah Gary that's right but they wanted a deal including David Bentley, and I could never swap a Bentley for a Honda ! :D
Yes sir, I can boogie, I can boogie, boogie, boogie all night long.

Is it feasible to manage a national football squad by video conference ? We will see. Apparently, that is the plan.

Keisuke Honda named Cambodia's national team general manager
12 August 2018
The A-League's biggest drawcard, Keisuke Honda, has picked up another job as general manager of Cambodia's national team.

However, Melbourne Victory were quick to assure fans that their star signing would not miss A-League matches, being available to Cambodia only when the competition paused for FIFA-sanctioned international dates.

Set to arrive in Melbourne during the week, Honda was unveiled in his new role at a media conference in Phnom Penh on Sunday.

The Japan World Cup star was reportedly expected to oversee the Cambodia team's campaign in South East Asia's 10-team AFF Suzuki Cup tournament, which runs between November 8 and Dec. 15.

How exactly he would go about that was unclear although the A-League said it understood Honda would hold a video conference once a week with the Cambodian team and staff from his Melbourne base.

It's just amazing! *\o/*
I know that he opened a soccer school in Phnom Penh in 2016
In FIFA ranking, Cambodia is 166/206. Hope he will help to get back up.

Keisuke Honda starts to coach Cambodia soccer team
5 September 2018
Japanese soccer star Keisuke Honda, who became the effective coach of the Cambodia's national team, says he intends to move forward slowly and steadily to build up the team.

Honda led a practice session of the team for the first time in the Cambodian capital of Phnom Penh on Tuesday.

He became general manager of Cambodia's national squad in August when he also signed a playing contract with Australian club Melbourne Victory.

At his first coaching session, Honda had instructed the players to take part in a practice game. He checked their moves and took notes on each player's characteristics.

Honda later told reporters that the players had a very positive attitude. He said his main objective is to establish a playing style for the Cambodian team to pursue.

Honda's first command with the squad will be a friendly match against Malaysia in Phnom Penh on Monday.

Honda takes Cambodia training, reveal plans for Malaysia

The new General Manager of Cambodia national team wasted no time to start preparing his side for his first challenge, a friendly against Malaysia.

The Japanese legend who was recently named as the new General Manager of the Cambodian national team has already begun work in his new non-playing capacity in this international calendar window.

Whilst the role that Keisuke Honda is appointed is such, his role is much more than that and images from his first training session with the team showed that he's also very much the man in charge on the pitch.

Cambodia will play host to Malaysia on 10 September in Phnom Penh in an international friendly that will also serve as a precursor to the actual competitive battle between the two side in the same location in November when they face each other in the 2018 AFF Suzuki Cup.

Honda who still currently contracted to Australian club side Melbourne Victory but will have the Cambodian team as his shared focus as he prepares the team for the aforementioned biggest regional competition in Southeast Asia.

In a video posted on his official Facebook, also showed some of the plans they want to work on ahead of the friendly against Tan Cheng Hoe's team on Monday. Among the plans include playing a possession based football focusing on speed of passing from back to front.

The Malaysia team are not impressed by new Cambodian coach, Japanese player, Keisuke Honda. Check out the Malaysia vs Cambodia friendly match at Olympic Stadium, Phnom Penh on Monday, 10 September.

Keisuke Honda-led Cambodia won't force Cheng Hoe into making gameplan changes
Malaysia boss Tan Cheng Hoe is neither fazed nor star-struck by Japanese star Keisuke Honda, who makes his coaching debut for Cambodia against them.
8 September 2018
Last month, the Cambodian FA announced Honda as its national team head coach, a somewhat unorthodox arrangement considering the fact that one week earlier, the 32-year old had just signed on to play for Melbourne Victory in the A-League.

The Cambodia-Malaysia friendly will be the Asian Cup-winner's first match leading his new charges. Two days ago, he led his first training session in preparation for the encounter against Malaysia.

Speaking in the post-match press conference following their 2-0 friendly defeat to Chinese Taipei on Friday, Cheng Hoe remarked that the presence of Honda will not result in him planning for the match any differently.

"It's a very important game for us, and it seems that my players are free from injury. It won't be easy for them as the match is in two days' time, and they need to be fresh mentally.

"Cambodia too have appointed Honda as their new coach, and they may be more motivated to play under him. But my players will be playing well, and we'll keep the same momentum on Monday," said the former Kedah boss when asked by a local journalist.

The match will be played at the Phnom Penh National Olympic Stadium, with kick-off time at 7.30pm Malaysian time.

Cheng Hoe's charges have been drawn in Group A of the 2018 AFF Championship later this year, together with Cambodia. The past four encounters between the two teams have been won by Malaysia, with their most recent clash taking place in the 2016 edition of the competition.
