When will my SMART SIM card expire?
When will my SMART SIM card expire?
I'll be leaving the country soon for four months and am wondering if my SIM card will work when I return. I've had it a while and I have left before for 3-4 months at a time and I vaguely recall that last time I returned I was in some sort of grace period where it was only a matter of days before my SIM card expired. But the balance check codes only tell you the validity of your balance not when the SIM card expires. Is there a firm rule that it expires 90 or 120 days after last use or last top up or something like that?
Re: When will my SMART SIM card expire?
You can go to an official smart shop and register your number with your ID so you can always claim your nr even if the sim stops working =)
You could try doing it through this app.

I think I'm registered. But if it expires, why wouldn't they possibly give the number to someone else?

If it expires, anyone else can purchase it, but they have to request it specifically - it doesn't get returned to the pool.
We had some numbers registered in the name of a staff member that we had to encourage to go and find work that would make him happier and more fulfilled (we sacked him) and we had to wait for the SIMs in his name to expire - he didn't reload them - after about two months, at which point we went and purchased them specifically by the number.

My DTAC Thailand SIM card balance check tells me the validity of the credit and the date of expiration of the card. And if you top up 100 -200 baht it extends the card expiration by six months. That beats standing in line for a new tourist SIM card every time I make a short trip to Bangkok.

Possibly a Captain Obvious response, but can't you get a friend to drop $2 on the balance each month?

Says on the website they reserve the right to cancel after 90 days without topping up or paying. pasted below.
Smart reserves the right to withdraw the Phone Number and SIM Card and to close the account of any Subscriber who fails to pay or recharge their account for 90 consecutive days since the Services were suspended, and Smart may transfer the Phone Number and SIM Card to any new subscriber.

Re: When will my SMART SIM card expire?
Most carriers its 60 days to my knowledge.
But why not do as suggested and drop the service to their most basic one and put $5 on it.
I pay using my c.c. and the smart app, takes 1 minute. Very easy

Re: When will my SMART SIM card expire?
Switch your tariff to Smart ExtraLong and your credit and number will stay active for 6 months before expiring. If the number is registered to you and it expires, no problemo, just visit a Smart shop and re-activate it when you return. There is a sliding fee scale depending on how lucky/desirable your number is. Bog standard numbers are $1 or $2 but they wanted $50 for my missus' number (ending in 333 so "Bronze" on the luckiness scale). She now has a new number.
Re: When will my SMART SIM card expire?
Yes 90 days after your balance expires. If you top up $5 before you go that gives you 30 days, so after that you would have 90 days on top.Cam Nivag wrote: ↑Mon Sep 03, 2018 5:21 pm I'll be leaving the country soon for four months and am wondering if my SIM card will work when I return.
