A Cambodian tale.
Kampot province: This is the strange story of Mr Matsab and his magic fish. Mr. Matsab is now 68 years old and lives in Kohlot village, East of Kampong Trach District, Kampot, and he treats sick people from all provinces and cities because of their faith in the power of the fish.

Mr. Matsab recounts that in 1985, he was an actor in Art Theater where he played the lead role in the well-known puppet troupe in Kampong Trach District until the 1990s. Then, that all disappeared and his life was left empty. Then he found a strange fish and a dream told him that it was magic and would cure people.
The effectiveness of the treatment can not be ascertained, but many are ready to witness that the fish has cured them or their children.

Seng Sokun, 32, of Boeung Tranh commune, Samrong district, Takeo province, said her daughter was 2 years old and blind, until she took her to the fish healer. Another woman,Phoung Phlei, 38, said she was cured, even though she didn't really believe the fish was magic.

There are many tales about false healers scamming the superstitious, but Mr Matsab still lives in his simple home, and he does not ask money from his patients, who come from all over Cambodia.

The second picture looks like food maybe a filet. Do they eat said fish? Is the piece eaten 25 years old?

And yes the education level of some is saddening. But damnit I hope the fish is magical

He doesn't ask, perhaps.
"good luck" ceremonies are one thing, but offering this as a cure is clearly bunk, and may divert the sick from seeking real help.

Yes indeed. People should follow the more scientific way like the Thais here
