Price of rice-growing land

Post by armchairlawyer »

I want to know how much (in rough figures) would be a fair price for 100m x 100m plot of land, good productivity, in Prey Veng.

I would like to know too. I had helped buying land four years ago at $0.50 m2. Then good rice land in certain provenances went to the average of $3.00 m2. Last time involved with someone in negotiations the square metre was agreed at $4.00 Then overnight it changed with the seller holding on, and hoping for a Chinese buyer at a price of $20 m2.

Price depends on what neighbouring/village plots have recently sold for...could be anywhere from 50c m² up to a few hundy per m²...there are too many variables in asking how much the price of land is in a province that covers 4,883 km². If Chinese investors have been spotted scouting the area, then the prices will be sky-high.

OK, assuming no Chinese, no value as a building plot but good quality rice-growing land. Thanks.

I paid 6,000 for 5,000 sg m ONLY rice growing, no trees, already producing rice. 5kms before Savy Rieng town about 5 1/2 years ago. Been offered $10,000 for it.

So that's half hectare. 2 crops per year. How much value in rice per year?

Growing rice is a mug's game. Any other cash crop would be better. I think it was this year's harvest where the government had to lend everyone money from farmers to millers. If you can get the grass and the initial upfront cash then beef cattle would be the mack daddy. You could probably just poly-tunnel veg, though, too.

Not sure Cambodian land can support very profitable beef ranching..very poor grazing means huge grazing areas compared with western models

Idle thought - saw someone selling ostrich eggs (apparently locally grown) on FB the other day. Ostrich farming would take some management.
