When it floods
When it floods
When it floods some people go and stay with relatives who live on higher ground.
Some set up temporary accommodation on higher ground using wood or bamboo with a tarp over it. They have a wooden bed in it.
In one place there are little huts which are normally part of a restaurant complex. These are made with a steel frame. People move them to higher ground and stay in them.
In one place I saw children swimming inside their house. The parents put something under the legs of the bed to raise it up. They slept on the bed, and walked around in the water in their house.
Some people go home in a canoe.
Some people walk through the water to go home.
Some people build walkways to get to their house.
I met one girl with water under her house. She left her motorbike with friends across the road. When the water level rose even further, she left her motorbike about 2 km away, and walked the 2 km to the motorbike when going to work, some of it through water.
One girl left home wearing track pants, after walking through knee deep water, she took off her track pants and put on her school uniform skirt. She had shorts underneath.
Two girls rode bicycles approximately 12 km to school, and then 12 km home. I asked them if they ride the bicycle 12 km to school and home every day. They normally ride a motorbike, but use bicycles when the road is flooded, so they dont ride the motorbike through the water.
When the water level rose even further, they rented a room in town, and stayed there,
Some students just stop going to school because of floods or mud. In some cases it is school holidays anyway.
People also move cows and other animals to higher ground. They need to bring grass to the cows.
Children have a lot of fun swimming when it floods, but to many older people it makes life difficult.

Many others put up with all that water and buy a boat or build their house on the water.

Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.
