Black English teachers in Cambodia,Yes or No

If you have something so weird, strange or off-topic to post and think it doesn't belong in any other forum; you're probably right. Please put all your gormless, half-baked, inane, glaikit ideas in here. This might also be a place where we throw threads that appear elsewhere that don't belong ANYWHERE end up, instead of having to flush them. FORUM RULES STILL APPLY.

Not really. A pidgin is a 'language' that emerges when two groups who speak different languages come into contact and need a means of communication. Usually the language of the group which is dominant, such as economically, has they greatest influence over the pidgin. Hence, when the British colonised a lot of places, the pidgin that emerged was 'Pidgin English' because the British were the dominant group.

Sometimes pidgins creolise, that is they become 'real' languages. Examples are Patois in Jamaica and Kriol in northern Australia. When the pidgins creolise, they tend to use grammar of the less dominant language. Once the language is a creole, it is no longer mutually intelligible with the two original languages of the people who spoke the pidgin.

Singlish is neither a pidgin nor a creole. It's just a non-standard form of English spoken by people who live in a country which resembles a giant shopping mall.

Caribbean speakers are a lot easier to understand and tend to have far superior grammar compared to most northern Brits and Aussies.
