Kampong Thom, Cambodia News: On August 8, 2018, at 11 am, a 46-year-old man and his wife Roeun Pi, 44-year-old, got scammed into exchanging their life savings in gold for a small worthless statue, in Kampong Thom.

The police said that on August 5, two unknown suspects drove into a small village where they met the victims, saying they were looking for some land to buy. Then, on August 8, the suspects called the victims to say that they had a fabulous statue which was like a treasure, and they would sell it to them for only $10,000.
So the victims went and dug up all the gold that they were saving for their retirement, and they gave it to these people because they trusted them.
Unfortunately, the people they trusted were crooks, who took the gold from the victims, and then left them with a statue that is worth nothing. Eventually, the victims realised that they had been scammed, and they didn't know what to do because they were ashamed of having being so foolish. However, they told their neighbor, who called the police, and the authorities are now on the outlook for the scammers.
(Needless to say, the scammers were not answering their telephone.)
