Hotel sues Las Vegas mass shooting victims

Yeah, that place out 'there'. Anything not really Cambodia related should go here.

The guy behaved suspiciously over a period of several days and brought in a highly unusual amount of luggage, IMHO the hotel could/should have done more.
Except it wasn't a suspicious amount of luggage. Or any different to the hundreds of other weirdos who frequent Vegas hotels.
Fact: A single guy - not on business, lives in same state - carries more than 10 suitcases up to his suite and not even once when checking in but on a number of trips. That is not normal.

How did anyone know he wasn't on business? The whole point of him getting away with it was because it was not anything out of the ordinary. It's not considered unusual to bring your stuff in via the service lift.

The reverse is true as well: How can you be sure none of the hotel staff knew he was not there on business as the days of his stay progressed (I guess this is the week of the double negatives, lol) ?

Who ever thought this is a good system?! Always amazes me how openly corrupt America is while somehow keeping a (relatively) clean image in the world.

The other group of lawyers (other than hack solo practitioners struggling to get by) who often run for judge are prosecutors and public defenders. Because being judge is a pay raise for them too.

There's a mini scandal going on right now in Las Vegas. A prosecutor is running for judge and of course got campaign contributions from private criminal defense attorneys, including defense attorneys against whom that prosecutor has active cases. And then some of those lawyers's clients got, um, favorable plea bargains for the prosecutor after the campaign contributions were made.

When I first moved to Las Vegas to study for the bar exam, a friend of a friend put me in touch with a local lawyer who agreed to meet me for lunch and who gave me advice on a couple of occasions about the local job market, etc.

Five years later, when I was the in house lawyer for a casino, part of my job was to make recommendations to the CEO about what judges to donate to, and how much. The lawyer who helped me out was a judge by then and running for re-election.

On my recommendation, made out of personal gratitude, we gave that judge a nice donation for the re-election campaign, even though the judge had no opposition at all, no one had filed to run against the judge by the filing deadline.

I think that campaign donations to judicial candidates, especially sitting judges, who have no opposition are sort of frowned upon now.

From what I understand, the concrete grounds are also hotel property. Did I misunderstand something?

jmagic, did you see this?

http://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/20 ... oting.html

' MGM Resorts is already bracing for lawsuits over its response to the shooting. “Where is the system?” said attorney Richard Patterson, who is representing several shooting victims. “It broke down. This is negligence — they could have stopped the whole thing. As a land owner you have an obligation to ensure the safety of people on that land. They owned the venue and they owned the hotel — good luck.”

DeShong responded, “Security has been and continues to be a top priority at all of MGM Resorts.” Patterson also argued that staffers of Live Nation, which operated the concert, showed poor judgement in turning on the flood light after the shooting started, giving Paddock a better view.'

It seems to indicate that MGM own the concert venue.

They say Stephen Paddock purchased 55 firearms, mostly rifles, many 2 days before the shooting. Red flags for sure, yet they blame the hotel?

Indeed, most Americans buy way more than 55 in a few days, definitely something wrong.
