Pailin: On 10 July, some local people came across a bag which appeared to contain explosives and materials under a bridge in Bor Dang Noy commune in Pailin. Suspecting that the bag may be dangerous, they reported it to police. Inspection of the bag revealed 11 small tubes, 2 small explosive devices, wires, an unidentified powder, some pieces of paper, and a packet of cigarettes.

The location and the contents of the bag indicate that the explosives were most likely to be used for illegal fishing, but police said that they could have been used to blow up the bridge, and any explosives found should always be reported to police immediately.

Many people walk a mile or more for the ciggies. They are very dangerous and can kill you.

Probe into bridge-bombs find
Pav Suy / Khmer Times Share:

Pailin provincial police are investigating the possibility of a planned election-related attack after 11 homemade bombs were found under a bridge on Tuesday evening.

Pailin town police chief Yem Sarith said yesterday that some miners walking under the bridge saw a plastic bag, became suspicious and reported the matter.

“We haven’t found out who placed the bombs, and are cooperating with provincial police officers in the investigation,” he said. “Such homemade bombs are mostly used by fishermen who throw them in lakes or canals to catch fish. But we don’t have a clue yet on why these bombs were placed under the bridge.”

According to a provincial police report, the bombs might have been set up to cause chaos during the political party campaigns.

Provincial police chief Prum Chandin said they are still searching for suspects to uncover the motive.

He declined to comment further, saying it might disrupt the investigation and alert the suspects.

It appears to be 2 primers, 11 safety dets, some safety fuse and a small bit of primer cord. Definitely not a "bomb" =@ =@

Lol. It sounds like a "fisherman" left his gear under the bridge and went looking for a lighter/some food/to have a dump. Somebody dobbed him in, and now they have his spot.
@ Arget. The KTs can't tell the difference between a paper and a plastic bag.
