More Chinese Takeover in Sihanoukville

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

With you still living there, like some of my friends. Whom one is trying to sell up and move. Do you see any benefits in the place?

people go on about the place like it was once a pristine utopia.its never ever been anywhere near it.
u cant even compare it to thailand 20/30 years ago.

yes the chinese are everywhere and theres construction but its a short term pain for long term gain.

I don't understand what you don't understand about the first part! I was saying with you living there you know and see what is happening. That also being a question that you kindly replied. My friend is selling his house there and will be one, who may make a profit. I also can see benefit in development. Casinos and 4 star hotels will bring a total new aspect to the area, that may bring a different tourist from not only china. factory and docks also should fill the gap for the employment to Khmer.
I would not like to speculate on winners. There will be quiet a few. Losers, certainly western establishments and room rental, Khmer workers depending on the environment before the change. But on the whole who again will be effected with what! lease of 99 years.

Chinese investment continues to fuel bullish Sihanoukville property sector
July 12, 2018
Sihanoukville’s property sector saw strong growth during the first few months of the year due to a favorable investment environment that has attracted new investors and projects, insiders say.

Yun Min, the governor of Preah Sihanouk province, said he has noted a robust buildup in business activity in the local construction sector from the end of last year to the first few months of 2018.

In 2017, the Land Management Department in Sihanoukville approved 51 construction projects, amounting to more than 775,000 square metres and $48 million in investment.

Last year the province welcomed nearly 2 million tourists, including 470,000 foreigners. Of total foreign arrivals, nearly 120,000 were Chinese, an increase of 126 percent year-on-year.

So according to this statement the other 350,000 are of other foreign nationality.

I thought the woman from Kong had loads of money, had a rich husband. Was the bar and hotel on separate leases? What about the place behind? I thought that was theirs, too.
