It does seem quite odd that the rescue efforts would stop at night and resume in the mornings. It's not like sunlight would improve anything inside the cave. But obviously there are many factors we don't know about. I can only imagine that if continuous active rescuing was possible they would certainly be doing it. There will be plenty of time for criticism after all this drama is over. IF it's because there is a shortage of qualified divers on site then junta heads should roll because surely the Aussies, Brits or many other nations could have had 100 highly experienced Navy divers there within in two days at most.

Just get the last 5 out of that fucking cave! Jesus Christ already.

Maybe they want to bring the boys out at night for their benefit, as long as it’s safe for them to wait another few hours.

These kids and coach have been in near total darkness for several weeks now, coming out into full on sunshine would be quite a shock to the system. They may also want to do this at night to keep the vulture press less able to visibly see and get pictures.

Although I think they are just taking their time and making sure things are done right. Why would they want to keep them in there any longer than needed for any other reason?

On another note they have started the rescue for today and aiming to get all remaining out today.

Apparently there are heavy rains in the area and they are worried about flooding. Could make the rescue more dangerous and slow it down as well.

There are actually 90 divers in total working on the rescue, the majority of whom are on logistics, and 18 in the actual rescue team: "13 foreign divers and five Thai navy Seals made up the rescue team and were among a team of 90 divers involved in the rescue effort overall"https://www.theguardian.com/world/live/ ... -boys-live

The time between each rescue attempt and the number rescued each time is also determined by the constraining factor of organising the replacement air supply following each rescue attempt and the number of tanks required for each extraction:

The head of the rescue mission says their plan is based on bringing four people out each day. That's partly because it takes about 20 hours to re-set all of the oxygen tanks they use inside the cave during the rescues. Seriously impressive engineering on such a short time scale.

Let’s hope it’s not needed but this could definitely be used to save lives in the future.

Final mission underway

Thai authorities have confirmed today’s rescue mission began at 10.08 this morning (local time), with 19 divers going in.

Despite the heavy rain overnight, conditions in the cave haven’t changed much.

Michael Safi reports there was applause in the room as the rescue chief, Narongsak Osatanakorn, the head of the joint command centre coordinating the operation, announced the four boys and their coach will be brought out in the one mission.
