American Fugitive ROBERT EDWARD SHEARER JR and His Filipino Wife Detained for Disturbance; Arrested for Overstay

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

LOL. They didn't get beaten up, he did. One or two of them got hit. My point is that they take way more crap than western cops before they get aggressive. Open your eyes.
They do, but I wouldn't hold up Cambodia as the hallmark of quality policing. We've seen police try to stop rich people in SUVs who get out of the vehicle and smack the cops around. If you want to argue that US police are too aggressive, power-tripping, militaristic, etc. that's fine, but a similar argument can be made that Cambodian police are toothless and totally ineffective, and this lawlessness is one of the major stumbling blocks impeding Cambodia's progress towards becoming a developed, civilized country.

My point is that Cambodian cops are slower to use force or deadly force than in the US.

The society as a whole is way less violent than the US...perhaps the US could learn something, or is America so far ahead, so superior morally, that no one (except Israel and a few other paragons of virtue) can teach them policing methods?

Without judging anyone I would just like to mention that the odds of a person being spoken to or traffic stopped in the US being armed is far greater than in Cambodia. Maybe a reason for greater violent confrontation by percentage. =@

The purse snatchers and negligent drivers who get beaten to death by mobs may disagree.

Because Khmer cops don’t impartially enforce the law. So then mob justice is a default last resort.

When was the last time a real okhna driving a moto was stopped and fined for not wearing a helmet? Or an illegal logger arrested and charged?

How often have celebrities been pulled over by the cops in the US for speeding/erratic driving, found to have drugs, and arrested? Lots!

When was the last cop who shot/caused the death of an innocent black guy prosecuted in America?

How many were not prosecuted?

But you're talking about parking/traffic violation tickets in Cambodia, presumably to illustrate what wonderful guys the police are in the US.

The logic fails, I think, no offence.

Cambodian cops don’t generally stop those that might commit violence on them. Those that provide tea money get stopped. Thus foreigners get stopped. Okhna don’t. Or if they do get stopped, the cops apologize for their mistake.

Cops don’t cruise neighborhoods looking for random black men to shoot. They were called because of a crime in progress or in a high crime area to prevent more crime. Innocent criminals don’t charge at the police.

Every time an officer discharges a weapon, there is an investigation and usually a grand jury - a group of ‘that genius’ people who decide whether or not the officer committed murder or self defense.

Would you prefer that cops must be shot or stabbed first before they can defend themselves?

Grand juries in the USA must be awfully busy.

That’s why jury duty is mandatory.
