We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. Police Warn of Scammers in Uniform

Military Police warns about illegal uniform usage
June 22, 2018
The Royal Gendarmerie of Cambodia warned that it will take legal action against anyone unlawfully using uniforms, ID cards, and vehicle markings that identify members of the military police or military officers.

The statement was issued because some people have been wearing uniforms, brandishing ID cards and vehicle markings in public spaces, and posting photos on social media.

The National Military Police also warned against any form of false recruitment for the police. “We do not recruit military police now. When we do so, we will inform the public.”

Men in uniform who promise jobs are doing a roaring trade ripping off the poor and credulous. Sometimes the scammers are crooks in false uniforms, but sometimes they are for real.

Phnom Penh: On June 21 2018, many people filed a complaint about two men, 2-star general, Chum Sokoeun and a military officer, Kim Rithy, who scammed thousands of dollars off people who thought they were buying a government position.

According to the victims, 2 Star General Chum Sophal told them that he was easily able to help them to find work as a government employee because he is the nephew of 4 Star General, Sok Phal. The victims believed what he told them, but there were no jobs, and as a result, they lost thousands of dollars that they paid out to the scammers.
The two suspects are on the run with the money they stole from the victims, and are sought by police.

Good looking out. They're on most street corners in blue uniforms.
