Speaking of scamming...

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. Speaking of scamming...

Post by StroppyChops »

Scams are current in other threads at the moment, thought I'd share this.

We have a family visiting from Australia (as already mentioned, they're Kiwis, but that's not their fault) - mother, father, 7yo kid. They're catching up with us every couple of days, and always remember to bring the beer and cider like good countrymen.

They came in laughing about how much they got scammed recently. Apparently the Royal Palace was "closed today becaw Buddha" and the nice man took them for a long, meandering drive around, out of, and back into PP before taking them to another temple, replete with it's own scams. He took them to some place with kids and monkeys, grabbed a handful of their cash from their hands, and started handing it out to the kids. The monkeys stole the packets of dry noodles they'd paid $15 for, and then the driver hit them up for $35 for a couple of hours driving. There were some other costs involved in the day, but to be honest the scams all blur together for me these days.

Fortunately they weren't wearing hats.

At least they found the humour in it, and still had cash left for beer and cider.

They did find their own way back to the National Museum, and asked the attendant if the Royal Palace was indeed closed today. He laughed, politely.

All good practice for them for when they go back home and really get scammed by their government.
Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.

Walking home the other night I decided to try one of those $3-$5 massages as had a sore neck.
Two blokes and two womwn in the "foyer" and one took me up to the room. Got the shirt off and she hung it on the hook near the door and shut the door. I was laid on the bed and she sat on my bum and proceeded to massage my shoulders and knec. this went on for about 15 mins and felt ok.
When she intimated that I could turnover I declined and said finish.
I put my shirt back on and paid her $5 for the massage and a tip.
Anyway...... I don't carry a wallet and have cash in my pockets , mostly bigger notes in side pockets and small money in pockets.
This night I had $20 in shirt pocket and about 14 $1 notes in my shorts. I paid in $1 notes.

When I got home I when to put money in draw and realised that a $10 note was missing.
The penny dropped when I realised the sound I had heard while being massaged was not the bed as she pummeled me but the door closing after they had snuk in and knocked off my cash.

As has been said its no good getting all bent out of shape over but chalk it up to experience and tell others.

You have been told. Put clothes on the bed with you or somewhere you can see them. =@

The "the Royal Palace is closed" scam has been around in Bangkok for decades; good to see that the Khmer scammers are catching on.

No, apparently he was out visiting King Wannahawkaloogi.

I hear that some places have hidden panels near the coat stand for someone to reach through and empty your pockets.
