After the September 11, 2001 attacks
As a result of September 11, some Sikh Americans have become subject to discrimination, often from individuals who mistakenly believe that they are Arab or Muslim. Balbir Singh Sodhi, a gas station owner, was killed on September 15, 2001 due to being mistaken for a Muslim. In a 2011 report to the United States Senate, the Southern Poverty Law Center reported several assaults and incidents of arson at Sikh temples after September 11. All were labeled as hate crimes that resulted from the perpetrators' misconceptions that their targets were Muslim.[12] In August 2012, a Sikh temple in Oak Creek, Wisconsin was the site of a shooting, leading to multiple Sikh individuals being killed.[13] On May 7, 2013 an elderly Sikh man (Piara Singh, 82) was attacked with an iron bar in Fresno, California. The crime is being treated as a possible hate crime.[14] On September 21, 2013 Dr. Prabhjot Singh, a Sikh professor was brutally attacked in Harlem by a group of 20-30 men who branded him as "Osama" and Terrorist".[15]
Bullying
A 2007 survey of Sikh students by the Sikh Coalition found that three out of four male students interviewed "had been teased or harassed on account of their religious identity."[16]
In 2014, the Sikh Coalition released a national report on the bullying of Sikh children in American schools. The report found that 55.8% of Sikh students surveyed in Indianapolis reported being bullied, while 54.5% of Sikh students surveyed in Fresno, California reported being bullied.[17] According to the surveys, Sikh students wearing turbans are twice as likely to be bullied as the average American child.

Yea -- but it's maybe for the better. He was not addressing the topics anyway and none of us needs more escalation as to personal attacks.dagenham wrote:Interesting...ever since he was called out on his patently outrageous "Islamist Invasion of OZ" the good 'ol boy has been totally mute on tis thread....while posting like mad on other ones (per usual)...and he is never ever silent...hmmm...probably acutely embarrassed for revealing himself...oh well, I sincerely wish him well and may he rest in peace...
But he'll be back..it''s his job after all...
In my case I feel my points have been satisfactorily made so there is no need to rub his face in it.
I only got back on here to protest OD's protection of him and harassment of you.
Also to OD's credit --- I think he is a bit blinded by personal affinity to stroppy and that is reflecting poorly on how this forum is managed-- but I also need to add he has been remarkably patient (if still too stubborn) in dealing with all the criticisms. A lot of mods in some forums would be in a "Do not Challenge me" nuking frenzy by now.

Re: Sunday: Are we so anti-Christian we're turning pro-Islam
Sadly there was some Sikh bashing in the UK too.
Some of them started wearing T-shirts or badges saying, Don't Freak, I'm Sikh.
Anyway, I wouldn't fuck with them. Tough bastards and probably my favourite brownecks (we have concluded that this is an acceptable nomenclature, right?).

Tell me more about why you feel that way, Joker. I will be nice aboutJoker Poker wrote:There is no way that Jesus would be Islamic, regardless of what any Jesuit may think.Dara wrote:Thanks Joker,Joker Poker wrote:Well, I'm sorry that a potentially thought provoking thread has turned into such a morass.
Did you notice that no one said, "What would Jesus say?" I speak here
for the Jesuits, who unfortunately can not speak for themselves.
Jesus would say that Islam is the closest thing to the true religion,
and that he would be Islamic.
what ever you would like to contribute.

There is one person in Phnom Penh who knows an awful lot about religion and its history.
I think having him commenting here might be just enough to make the whole thing go nuclear.

You mean Andy in Asia ?
He would certainly have an interesting view.
Maybe he would be comfortable using a pen name.

He's actually respecting my request of him to not further this argument any more by feeding dengaham's trolling. just as i no longer respond to his accusations that i'm an alcoholic or his fixation on the fact i used capitals for emphasis once because i was too lazy to type the bbcode for the bold command.Rain Dog wrote:Yea -- but it's maybe for the better. deng is a troll... all of his rants and attacks, i don't even believe he believes them any longer, especially after the night i saw him drunkenly stumbling down the street outside 136 bar so wasted that when i called his name from across the street he looked around but couldn't even fix his eyes on the source the stumbled off again.
he's only here to wind everyone up, it's his porn... and the past day most have gotten him harder than a teenage boy in a girls locker room.
Re: Sunday: Are we so anti-Christian we're turning pro-Islam
Yea well Sikhs evolved out of the ongoing conflict between Muslims and Hindus and in some ways could be considered a hybrid of the two. Guess you would have to be tough culturally growing out of that.Tim Linkinwater wrote:Sadly there was some Sikh bashing in the UK too.

As to "Brownnecks" -- i have no real problem with it. You might want to check with ACLU or the equivalent in your country to be sure

What is his background? Is he anti-religion or pro-religion or somewhere in between? Does he favor certain religions over others?Tim Linkinwater wrote:There is one person in Phnom Penh who knows an awful lot about religion and its history.

There are a lot of people who "know a lot" about religion -- but most are so blinded by their own biases that they have little to offer.

Now OD, does Stroppy know that you are talking about him like that?
Shouldn't Stroppy come back to make amends for deliberately troll baiting
Dags ? You say that you know that Dags is prone. We all might agree.
Stroppy knew. And he led him in to be attacked, knowing he could
claim that Dags started it and he only beat him up.
