Diluted spirits at a bar...

This is the part of the forum where we discuss Cambodia's nightlife! While most bars, nightclubs, pubs, beer gardens, and hostess bars are in Phnom Penh, we discuss the Cambodian nightlife across all of Cambodia, including Siem Reap, Kampot, and Sihanoukville. The main nightlife areas in Phnom Penh are on Street 136, Street 130, Street 110 and Street 51, but there are other party spots that aren't girlie bars where expats, tourists, and locals drink until the sun comes up. Feel free to post specials and promotions that relate to nighttime fun!

Diluted spirits at a bar...

Outside the growing number of mini-marts? :-)
These seem to be becoming the new outside bars - very cheap drinks, often a TV, and often a gaggle of freelancers sitting around. I reckon the first one that adds some music outside will become a hit.

Do they sell steak and kidney pie?

everywhere, because expats are supposed to know the score and to avoid the most common pitfalls and scams.
of course if a place is a total scam they will just avoid it but there's no reason to feel unsafe in hostess bars if you're not an asshole and if you know the rules of the game, simple as that.

actually it's more risky to go in some viet or khmer KTVs in my opinion.

however, in order to be scammed you need to fall in their trap, if you know the rules you can't get trapped, that's exactly why bargirls prefer to stick with tourists than expats and of course they don't like it if you speak khmer.

Just name and shame... Especially if both the manager and owner didn't give a shit. Think of it as a public service announcement.

agree.
it's 2014 and social networks, forums, chats, are the new "word of mouth".
adapt or die.

they all had it easy in the past when complaints about bad service were difficult to spread around, now the game has changed and they're starting to panic at the idea they might be accountable for ripping off their customers and/or offering terrible service.

and i see the same development going on for tourist traps, in the past tourists were clueless, now they read sites like Tripadvisor and steer clear from the most obvious scams and the scammers are going crazy since they just can't keep the bad reviews under control.

practical example ... Candy Bar in 136 is now closed ... and they can only blame themselves for ripping off so many customers over time.
