Badly behaved western tourists at Angkor Wat

Post by CEOCambodiaNews »

A photo compilation of western tourists doing things esteemed to be disrespectful to the ancient temples in Cambodia.
One thing these people don't seem to understand is that it is not ok to climb, crawl on, or sit on ancient statues, and that temples are sacred sites and not adventure playgrounds. It is equally not ok to leave the designated tourist areas and climb around on the ruins, because it can erode them, and it is also dangerous for the tourists.

Sure, but with the vast numbers visiting these days it's probably best to curtail it. At the same time it's still impossible to visit many of the less-known or remote temples without clambering over parts of them, there aren't wooden steps and walkways in every temple!

I was there yesterday and didn't see anything like this. But it is off season.

Disrespecting cultural icons = disrespectful.

Disrespecting cultural icons while wearing elephants pants and a manbun, and doing yoga like a twat = still disrespectful. And you look like a twat.

When i was there the Chinese were climbing and taking pics, the tour guide was encouraging them to do so, so i guess this is nothing new.
Nevertheless you need to behave and respect the culture of the country you are visiting in, its the least you can do, not very hard.

The Khmer don't seem to be too vigilant in getting tourists to follow the rules. When I was at Angkor Wat, my wife and I could hear the Chinese screaming from 50 yards away. As it is (was) the largest religious site in the world, there should be more reverence for the site; but that is lost on the Chinese masses
