Man fails attempted murder-suicide
Man in police custody over knife attack against wife
May 25, 2018
Police on Wednesday arrested a man who attacked his wife with a knife and then tried to commit suicide after she asked him for a divorce in Oddar Meanchey province’s Anlong Veng district.
Captain Duong Seng, Anlong Veng district deputy police chief, identified the suspect as Bou Bi, 43, a farmer living in Thlat commune who attacked his wife Seth Channa, 37.
Cap Seng said that on Wednesday morning, the suspect has an argument with his wife and slapped her in the face.
The wife became enraged and asked for divorce, he added, noting that the wife demanded that she be given the house and a motorbike after the split, leaving the suspect with the farm land. The suspect did not agree.
“He was angry at his wife for trying to divorce him and demanding to have the house and the motorbike,” Cap Seng said. “He took a knife and chopped her many times, causing injuries on her left hand, right shoulder, neck and head.”
“After chopping his wife, he locked himself in the house and tried to commit suicide by burning the house down and hanging himself,” he added.
Cap Seng said that authorities responded and used a fire truck to put out the blaze before entering the home and preventing the suicide.

Everyone is equal. Everyone has a place. No one is written off, because there is worth and goodness in every life... That is the Republican ideal. And if we won't defend it, who will?
