Martial law declaired in Thailand! NOT ITS a MILITARY COUP

Thailand is Cambodia's neighbor to the West, and this forum is dedicated to Thai news, stories, reviews, blogs, videos, Thai people and anything else related to the country. A lot of expats have both lived and worked in Cambodia and Thailand, and this area is a place to discuss all aspects of life in Thailand and what's going on there. Most topics are about Bangkok and Pattaya because of their larger populations of expatriates and tourists in those cities, but this is for all things Thai.

Martial law declaired in Thailand! NOT ITS a MILITARY COUP

Post by phuketrichard »

Looks like the shit will hit the fan now.
How will this affect Cambodia ( along with new immigration policies) No one knows.

Stayed tune

Bangkok (CNN) -- The Thai army declared martial law throughout the country Tuesday in a surprise move that an aide to the country's embattled Prime Minister said the government didn't know about beforehand.

"They took this action unilaterally. The government is having a special meeting regarding this. We have to watch and see if the army chief honors his declaration of impartiality," the aide said, describing the situation as "half a coup d'etat."

Lt. Gen. Nipat Thonglek told CNN the move was not a coup.

Lets announce sumting and figure it out later.

edit: Just saw this:
Anyway, as I see it (like most) three options:

1. Army sees elections held properly (red win?)
2. Army engineers an unelected PM (yellow win?)
3. Army calms everyone down with martial law, gets its boys in place around the country, then moves to a full blown coup with tanks and guns in place, and reds dispersed (yellow win?).

Sadly, we live in interesting times.....

Nothing like tanks and troops to calm things.

Another RANT.
You, the Thai monarchists reading this post should stop bothering to fig-leaf this Royal or bestow a modicum of fake legitimacy on it. Of course the King was involved. Of course this royal circus was hatched in the Imperial Palace. Of course the King knew what was coming. Of course he was involved. Of course he had a vested dynastic interest to prevent the democratic, popular rule. Of course his CIA masters told him it was perfectly fine and dandy to proceed. Please don't tell us that His Majesty is as pure as Buddha and as immaculate as Queen Maya: his majesty is up to his royal cojones in nazi politics, elitist power grab, feudal privilege, cunning wizard-of-oz manipulations and every manner of political dirt under the tropical sun.
Think about it: how many kings have survived not one, not two, not three, but 11 (ELEVEN) SUCCESSFUL AND 7 (SEVEN) UNSUCCESSFUL COUPS?.
It is time to root out this royal $cum once and for all. And not only this royal $cum, but every other royal $cum in existence, and I can think of quite a few, many even in Europe, or just next door to Europe (hint. hint. wink, wink, nod, nod).

All they will be doing is calming things down enough so the army can then take office. Either way with the army on the streets ok Bangkok we all know who is in charge....

It is defiantly not the "caretaker government"

best thing in the world for Thailand, take it out of the hands of the Reds & Yellows an place it in the hands of the Army.

They will hold it together until something can be done, but don't count on any election solving this problem.

18 coups ( 7 failed ) since 1932

Here's number 19

It's interesting to read how fearful and circumspect the posters on Thai based forums are compared to foreign paper's comment sections.
When your own home life is threatened the shields go up. The Army is not fooling anybody in the know.

This is yet another reason why savvy expats left Thailand behind a long long time ago. :hattip:
