Police believe the killing and robbery were carried out by a criminal gang.
Auto parts dealer killed in robbery
April 25, 2018
Siem Reap city police are looking for suspects involved in the murder of an auto parts dealer in the province after a group of assailants broke into his home and stabbed his throat multiple times.
Major Veng Bunly, deputy chief of Siem Reap city police, said the crime occurred yesterday morning at about 2.30am at the victim’s home in Svay Dangkum commune.
Maj Bunly identified the victim as Pin Samnang, a 43-year-old businessman who sold auto parts in Siem Reap city. He was killed after a group of people stabbed his throat with a vegetable knife, he said.
Maj Bunly said that on the night of the murder, the victim was alone at his home. His wife and other family members were spending the night elsewhere.
Maj Bunly said that at about 2:30am, assailants broke into the victim’s house and entered the bedroom while the victim was asleep. The suspects proceeded to stab the victim multiple times in the throat with a vegetable knife.
“According to the autopsy, the suspects stabbed the victim many times with a sharp knife, causing the victim to die,” Maj Bunly said. “After killing the victim, the suspects stole his properties and took his CCTV camera which was planted inside his home.”
At about 8am, relatives returned home and discovered the victim’s body and reported the incident to authorities, he said.
Maj Bunly said that according to the victim’s relatives, the assailants stole three gold necklaces worth $5,000, one gold ring worth $500, three smart phones, one CCTV camera and some cash.

My money is on the security guard(s), or someone who knew the family, and knew that the man would be alone in the house that night. And maybe they killed him so he couldn't identify them.
Also, they stole the CCTV which indicates a bit of brain work behind the planning. It's amazing how many robbers and murderers never think about the CCTV.

Good point, but they say they can't identify the killers because there's no film ?

Re: Murderous House-breaking; Siem Reap Man Brutally Robbed and Killed
It's 2018 (even in Cambodia). Any and all cameras worth their salt are connected to WiFi and recording to the cloud so that the video can be recovered even if the cameras and drives are smashed to bits. Costs relatively little to set this up, though someone really intelligent could still cut he internet connection before doing their dirty work.
"The revolution did more than legally create the United States; it transformed American society... Far from remaining monarchical, hierarchy-ridden subjects on the margin of civilization, Americans had become, almost overnight, the most liberal, the most democratic, the most commercial minded, and the most modern people in the world." - Gordon S. Wood

Re: Murderous House-breaking; Siem Reap Man Brutally Robbed and Killed
4 May 2018
Siem Reap police, on the morning of May 4, 2018, held a press conference concerning the murder of a car dealership shop owner in Siem Reap province, and announced that two men have been arrested at Sangkat Svay Dangkum, Siem Reap City, Siem Reap Province.
Before the murder and robbery, the perpetrators went to the victim's home on the pretext of applying for a job, and then on the evening of 23 April 2018, they returned to the house around 3am, where they knocked on the door and called the victim. When he opened the door still half-asleep, the two men attacked the victim with a knife and slit his throat.
After the murder, the thieves calmly disconnected the CCTV recorder and dismantled it, before stealing a number of valuables that were in the house, including a gold chain, a diamond ring and two telephones.

Wrongfully arrested man complains on social media, wanted to sue police
11 May 2018
Siem Reap: A 28 year old man, Prom Sophrek, the landlord, was wrongfully arrested by police on April 25, 2018,for the murder of car parts seller, Pin Samnang.
Although the real murderers were arrested on May 3, Prom Sophrek was only pronounced innocent and released on May 7. Mr Sophrek is upset that he had to spend all those days in jail being badly treated by the police, and about all the shame and embarrassment that the arrest caused him and his family, so he is posting his complaints on social media.
Sophrek is particularly upset that he was not released immediately when the real murderers were detained and revealed to the public in a press conference held by the police on May 4.
He says he is a victim, and he wanted to file a complaint to the police for wrongful arrest, but his family stopped him. They had to pay a lot of money to get him released, and do not want further trouble.
