Sildenafil-laced coffee product recalled
The Ministry of Health has recalled the Coffee Chong Ol Mekh product from markets and any beverage locations across the country after the National Laboratory Centre found that it contained medicine.
According to a ministry statement issued yesterday, the ministry was advised by the laboratory that Coffee Chong Ol Mekh contains a medicine called Sildenafil, used to treat erectile dysfunction.
The ministry said it has asked its branches and relevant authorities, as well as stores and beverage stalls, to immediately recall Coffee Chong Ol Mekh, which translates to “pointing to the sky” in English.
“In the case of encountering counterfeit Coffee Chong Ol Mekh containing the medicine called Sildenafil, please immediately inform the Health Ministry,” the statement said.
The Coffee Chong Ol Mekh company posted its advertisements on Facebook and also ran its own website.
Company director Meas Morakot yesterday said that she was surprised by the laboratory results, noting that she was importing the product from Thailand, where it had already been reviewed by the Thai Health Ministry.
