Pregnant woman killed after refusing abortion
Tbong Khmum Provincial Court yesterday charged two siblings for the murder of a 24-year-old woman who was three-months pregnant and refused to have an abortion.
Men Kosal, deputy chief of the criminal investigation department with provincial police, identified the suspects as fisherman Sos Hareous, 28, and his older sister Sos Smin, 29.
Mr Kosal said that Mr Hareous was in a romantic relationship with the victim, his girlfriend Tin Haisak, a farmer who lived in the same village as the two accused in Chiro 1 commune.
Mr Kosal said that Mr Hareous’ family did not approve of his relationship with the victim and ordered him to cease contact with her.
However, the victim was three-months pregnant and Mr Hareous pleaded with her to have an abortion, which she consistently refused to do, said Mr Kosal.
“They were angry at the victim for not aborting the child and then they prepared a plot to kill her,” he said. “They brought the victim to a corn field, where the sister acted as a lookout while her brother broke the victim’s neck.”
Both of the accused have been charged with premeditated murder and face life sentences if convicted.
