Where to stay in Phnom Penh?

Post by dj_rizla »

I've been to Phnom Penh before, but it was such a short visit I didn't get a chance to explore much. I'm returning in the new year and staying for a bit longer, but I want to find a better place to stay.

Due to a knee injury, which makes stairs very difficult, I'm looking for somewhere with an elevator. I know this has limited my options, but I've found a few places and I'm trying to decided which area would be best to stay in.

While I would like to stay near Riverside, there are only a few options there. There are several around an area across the river, but I don't know the name of the area. It's by National Highway 6 and not far from Prohm Bayon Circle. Is this a good area to stay? Is there much there for tourists, like shops and restaurants? Will I have difficulty getting to and from Riverside or any other areas?

Thanks for any help.

Chrouy changvar is the area across the river. There's nothing there, and one of the bridges is, or is about to undergo repair works, so not a good place to stay.

The places around riverside will depend on your budget.

newcastle guesthouse/hotel on street 51 opposite GSM has a lift if i remember rightly, aircon rooms with safe/fridge etc only around $15, will have to book in advance though as usually fully booked

FWIW. Stayed here years ago so I don't know what it's like now, but this place was about $30 a night (breakfast was included), has elevator and was clean and ok. On St 172, close to river side and there are lots of restaurants and bars close by.
Someone else might have a more recent opinion. Places change fast.

The Frangipani Royal Palace Hotel is really nice, has a roof-top pool and a fantastic buffet breakfast... and an elevator. Good location one block from the river overlooking the royal palace.
You could be next.
