China Calls on Cambodia to Protect Chinese Citizens
China Calls on Cambodia to Protect Chinese Citizens
20 April 2018
More than 1,000 Chinese nationals have been arrested and deported from Cambodia since 2012 relating to online scams being run out of Cambodia.
PHNOM PENH —
The Chinese government has called on its ally Cambodia to take legal action against Chinese investors who have broken the law, the National Police have said.
On Thursday, police chief Neth Savoeun met Liao Jingrong, head of China’s General Department of International Cooperation, who also requested additional security be provided for Chinese law-abiding citizens in Cambodia.
Kirth Chantharith, police spokesman, could not be reached for comment.
In late February, Yon Min, the Sihanoukville governor, issued a report which alleged that an influx of Chinese tourists and organized criminals had caused instability in the city and led to a shortage of accommodation.
More than 1,000 Chinese nationals have been arrested and deported from Cambodia since 2012 relating to online scams being run out of Cambodia.
Meas Ny, a social researcher, said the “crisis” could lead to discrimination against Chinese in Cambodia. “We cannot survive long and we will lose even our land because we do not get along with anybody. This is currently a crisis for Khmer.”
Cambodia and China have strong ties while China has provided billions of dollars in loans and other development assistance to Phnom Penh in recent years.

Re: China Calls on Cambodia to Protect Chinese Citizens
It's going to be interesting to see how this all plays out especially in Sihanoukville.
The Chinese seem to have the place sewn up!
The issue will be how much of the business going on the Khmer can share in. My observation is the Chinese in Sihanoukville are sticking to themselves meaning the 'money go round' is also just between the Chinese.
I always thought if a business had non- Khmer workers then a ratio of Khmer had to be employed. ls this still in place and being policed??

There was supposed to be a Task force in SHV some time ago to keep an eye on the illegal activities as well as mediate if there were any problems. All the arrests seem to be in PP! So obviously there are no illegal activities in SHV and the PRC's well behaved!
Both or any side they damn choose!Do they drive on the left or right?

Some dont take sides , they take the middle road.
Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.

You've obviously never had a Chinese girlfriend. Many are nice to look at, though.Mekong.sushi.fighter wrote: ↑Wed Apr 25, 2018 2:49 am Deport them all!!! But leave their women here.
During the next worldwide economic downturn, most Chinese here will magically disappear. Remember how many factories closed in '09-'10?
I am sooooo very sorry if you can't understand or appreciate my sarcastic facetiousness.
