House Hunters in Si-Hanoukville

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. House Hunters in Si-Hanoukville

Post by timmydownawell »

This ep is pretty funny. The chick has clearly never been to Asia before. Oven? Hot water?

And the rents???? Hmm.

Quite funny but entirely scripted I think, they are building a big new resort here but have no idea about the local housing situation? If they're that clueless I don't have good hopes for their new business venture.
(and that $700 house with the green swimming pool was already for sale and rent more than 3 years ago when I lived in SHV, not 3 months like the estate agents says)
just noise, white noise

I've always thought this show was suss, i.e. out of just three properties they choose one and end up totally happy with the decision. I had wondered if they showed them more properties than made the cut (and got them to fake bits for the final edit) or if they already had one in mind from the start... and whaddya know...

This is what one participant had to say about the experience: https://xpatmatt.com/house-hunters-inte ... e-so-what/

It's loosely scripted reality. Friends of ours did it. They'd been living in the house for 9 months and finally had the film crew around almost a year after applying to be on the show. There had to be some drama/tension so if someone says something weird or makes them sound stupid then it's probably been put on them by the Director. Three properties are shown, the other two are just rough comparisons. But it depends on where you live, if there's not much on offer they take what they can get.

They must have to rush around and hide all their personal effects, pictures/art etc, so the house looks vacant when they "inspect" it. I wonder if they film the "three months later" part first, before hiding everything away?

Did your friends get paid or any benefit from being on the show?
