Husband sought after family slaughter

Husband sought in Tbong Khmum province triple homicide
2 April 2018
Police on Monday said they are searching for a man suspected of killing his pregnant wife and stepsons with a machete while they slept in their Tbong Khmum province home.

Neighbours found the bodies of Khean Sok Lean, 43, and her sons on Sunday, hours after they were killed in Tmar Pich commune in Tbong Khmum district, authorities said.

“We know that they were attacked with a long blade machete. Their throats have been cut,” said James McCabe of the Child Protection Unit, a children's NGO. “All received horrific injuries to the head and neck.”

The murders are believed to have occurred around midnight on Saturday. Sok Lean, who was two months pregnant, was found slumped against the wall of her home, while the sons were found in sleeping positions, according to the Child Protection Unit.

National police identified the sons as Thoeun Vannak, 17, and his younger brother Thoeun Theary, 11.

Chraing Phou, Sok Lean's husband, fled the scene and is being sought, said Prak Bunann, deputy provincial police chief. He said the suspect reportedly had “many wives” and had married the victim in October last year.

According to Bunann, Sok Lean had approached her local commune chief last week to ask for his intervention as she accused her husband of adultery and violence.

“The commune chief demanded the man to thumbprint the contract to stop making violence and committing adultery against her,” Bunann said.

There are a couple of motives here for the husband, number one suspect - money, jealousy, and divorce.

Police hunting man who killed his family
Military police in Tbong Khmum province are seeking to arrest a 48-year-old man suspected of murdering his pregnant wife and two stepsons on Sunday.

According to a military police report, the suspect, a widower, married the victim, also a widower, last year.
The report said the suspect accused his wife of having an affair with another man in their village, a claim she denied.

On Sunday at about 1.30 am, the suspect entered the victim’s house while they were sleeping and killed them by chopping them with a machete before stealing property [$10,000] and fleeing the scene, the report said.

A month before the murders, the suspect and victim had an argument that led to a violent beating in which the sons intervened to rescue their mother, according to police. During the argument, the two sons fought their father-in-law as he beat their mother, police said.
After the incident, the victim asked for a divorce and expelled the suspect from their home.

In what has been a mammoth effort task force members arrested the male suspect in the Tborng Khnom tripple homicide at 5.10pm today.

The arrest comes after 4 days working 24/7 and utilising all investigative resources spanning across 4 provinces.

The arrest was made in Odar Meanchey provience in a remote rural location some 40kms to the Thai boarder.

I wish to thank all JTF members including Tborng Khnom Police command, Odar Meanchey Police command, Ministry of Interior and CPU on a fantastic effort.

The suspect will be charged with aggravated murder.

May the innocent victims RIP knowing he will answer for this horrific crime.

Once again thank you to all those involved."
