Thai woman trafficked nearly two kilograms of drugs to Cambodia

Siem Reap: Thai national NOYSIM, a 23-year-old girl trafficked for nearly two kilograms of drugs, has been detained at Siem Reap International Airport at 10:45 am on March 29, 2018.

The deputy police chief of Brigadier General Um Amor, a deputy police chief in Siem Reap province, said that the suspect, identified as NOYSIM, 23, with 1,692 grams of drugs, was arrested at 10:45 am on March 29, 2018, at the Siem Reap International Airport by suspected drug cartels.

General U Amara said that the crackdown on the cross-border drug trafficking case was conducted by direct command of Supreme Commander Khim Bunsong of Siem Reap, General Tith Narong, Police Commissioner of Siem Reap Province, and with the cooperation of the Anti-Narcotics Bureau of Siem Reap Provincial Police Commissariat, Siem Reap International Border Gate and Customs Authority. Siem Reap International Airport Coordinated by Deputy Prosecutor of Siem Reap Court of First Instance.

Siem Reap provincial police arrested a female Thai citizen at Siem Reap International Airport for alleged drug trafficking.

According to the police report, the suspect, who gave her name as Noysim, was arrested on the night of March 29 after debarking the aircraft. The police confiscated 1.692 kilograms of cocaine.

The police sent the suspect to court the following morning for questioning.

Thai national charged with drug trafficking

Siem Reap Provincial Court yesterday charged a 23-year-old Thai national over the smuggling of 1.6 kilos of cocaine from Peru to Cambodia through Siem Reap International Airport.

Brigadier General Oum Amara, chief of the provincial anti-drug police, identified the suspect as Noysim Kessada, a Thai tourist.

He said the provincial court yesterday charged her with drug trafficking and noted that she faces a life sentence if convicted.

Brig Gen Amara said the suspect travelled from Peru to Siem Reap province via Dubai International Airport and Suvarnabhumi Airport, and arrived at Siem Reap International Airport on Thursday at about 3.30pm.

“She transported the drugs from Peru into Siem Reap province,” he said. “She was arrested by our police inside Siem Reap International Airport after the custom police X-rayed her luggage and found drugs inside.”

Police seized two big packages of cocaine weighing about 1.6 kilos, he added.

Brig Gen Amara said others linked to the case are being sought within Cambodia and noted that the arrested suspect has been jailed pending her trial.
