What's up with Kampot ? Is it next in line ?

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Rumour is that Chinese are planning to build 40 something storey high building in central Kampot. Sellers around the plot have told to stop selling after Khmer new year and the construction will start right after that.

I can't quite pinpoint the location; is this the vacant plot where the Old Market used to be?
As my old Cajun bait seller used to say, "I opes you luck.

The red circled area is next to the old road bridge.
The redeveloped Old Market/back-packer area is back from ABA Bank ATM.
As for veracity of the rumor, no idea.

If they could move the bars from Snookie to Kampot there might be some hope for the place.

Otherwise it remains a boring place filled with boring expats . 😑

It seems it will follow the same fate has Chinaville. What and where is next in line? Will the whole of Cambodia follow the same trend.
Always "hope" but never "expect".

Well, I made the mistake of visiting Kampot and it was so useless I have no issue whatsoever if it gets Chin' eased completely.

Now of course, every one is peed off about what's happening to Snookie, because it is, or rather wasn't a "waste of time". 😊

The expat bars in SHV would have folded with a few years anyway. The Chinese invasion just move it forward.
You have to wonder why there are 1000 of bars in Thailand but Cambodia can’t support a few dozen.
