Hi guys! I need help with Khmer

Have questions or resources regarding Khmer Culture? This forum is all about the Kingdom of Cambodia's culture. Khmer language, Cambodian weddings, French influence, Cambodian architecture, Cambodian politics, Khmer customs, etc? This is the place. Living in Cambodia can cause you to experience a whole new level of culture shock, so feel free to talk about all things related to the Khmer people, and their traditions. And if you want something in Khmer script translated into English, you will probably find what you need.

Hi guys! I need help with Khmer

Post by willytanger »

Hello guys!

Hi there. My name is Wilson and I am from Hong Kong. Recently one of my friend went to Cambodia and asked the hotel staff to leave me a message in Khmer (I believe?)I have been trying to reach out to different parties and see if anyone is kind enough to tell me what the staff said. I wonder if you are kind enough to do so? They are only 3 voice messages which are less than 30 seconds in total. Thank you in advance!!!

Thanks again!!!! much appreciated!

Hey there.

I only speak bar-talk Khmer, but:

In the first one they say "jim reap suah," which is the formal greeting.

In the second one I THINK they say you or somebody is sweet "piam."

And in the last one they say "re-try sue us, die," which means goodnight.

Lambo or somebody will be along to correct me if I fucked those up, LoL.

You're right.
The second one is the translated version of "You're very sweet".
Translated, because a Cambodian wouldn't have said "you" (neak/អ្នក) naturally in that sentence.

Hello guys!

I am a high school student from Cambodia who is working on a big project with my teammates, and that is, to build a Khmer-teaching app that primarily targets expats and tourists who wish to be able to converse in Khmer. As part of our market research, we have created an online survey for our potential users. Please spare a few minutes' time to complete the survey to which i have attached a link down below, and thank you in advance! :))
