Television possibilities in Cambodia

Post by james1234 »

Hi,

I will be moving to Cambodia in the next 6 mobths and tou guys and girls answered most of my questions great! Thx a lot for that!

Now something I couldn't find a lot of info about.
What are the possebileties of watching TV in Cambodia (more SR and SHV)?

What is being broadcasted on the cable?
Is there netflix or something like that available?
Do they have someting like kodi stream boxes?
Is it better to go for satelite?

I know about VPN and use this now to watch some series and sports online abroad. I watch mostly Dutch sports and american series.

I can watch Netflix, iFlix and Amazon Prime without a problem here in Cambodia. But their selection is more limited than in Europe.

I have Kodi installed on my android tv, also works fine. Rarely use it any more though since I usually find something interesting on the legal streaming channels.

Used to have OneTv (local cable-antenna tv) when I lived in SHV (around $10 a month if I remember correctly) but the channel selection (3 years ago), wasn't that interesting to me. I heard there are better options available now but I'm sure other members will be able to answer that for you.

Can you buy kodi in Cambodia and is it reliable?
I bought a kodi streambox in amsterdam but it stopped working and no service. :(
I liked the kodi a lot when it was working! Didn't need cable or Netflix. Kodi and VPN for internet broadcast works out fine for me.

Yes it's possible to get these boxes here (but on most tv's they sell here you can just install the app). If you're technically challenged or lazy like me I wouldn't recommend Kodi. You constantly have to update the addons, or they just stop working completely and then your search for new addons and lengthy installation process can start again. If you really want to watch live tv maybe it's easier to use this website and connect to your tv: http://ccloudtv.org/ and for Dutch tv you can stream them here via Stievie and similar websites.

Dear White ribbon, I am no digi-nono and can do the updates. And I will have the time to do so!

I liked the kodi really a lot when it was working, but my box just stopped working (didn't start anymore) and I didn't bother to buy a new one since I will be moving.

I will rent a place with TV and I doubt that would be a smart TV, or may be I am lucky!

We just got STV because other cable companies weren't an option where we live. Box with antenna was $85. Has 82 channels, about 20 Khmer, 50 English the rest a mix of Chinese Thai and French. I dont watch much but it has the 4 different Fox sports channels along with 3 others. Discovery and Nat Geo. A few movie channels and a few news networks. Also personal hotspot youtube over to the TV for anything else.

I found it hard to combine a Smart TV with VPN. But then I found a cheap WiFi router on eBay with built in VPN. So that when I connect the TV to my WiFi, it's always connected to my vpn provider with an American IP so that I can watch more of the Netflix catalog.

Get an Android device. Download an app called Live NetTV or Redbox and Robert is your Mother's brother. No need for VPN. Watch almost every channel available to human-kind. All you need is a stable WiFi signal or a bloody decent 4G data package. Buy a TV that you can Cast to, and you're toastie!!!
